Strike in national universities

The National Federation of University Teachers and some Argentine student centres, including the University of Buenos Aires, led a 48-hour strike on 13 October to demand higher wages and a higher budget, reports Prensa Latina.

Protesters are demanding a wage increase of 15% due to the high inflation rate prevailing in the country. In statements broadcast by local media, the secretary general of the National Federation of University Teachers or CONADU, Luis Tiscornia, pointed out that the actions of the first day were taking place in all provinces of the nation.

Teachers also call for the full implementation of the collective agreement and the immediate reinforcement of the budget for national universities. Several unions are participating in this national strike, such as the Union of Argentine Teachers, the Teachers' Federation of National Universities and the Confederation of Education Workers.
