President calls for mandatory university cohesion course

Public and private universities will be required to introduce a mandatory cohesion course in a bid to stem ethnicity in the country’s institutions of higher learning, writes Pharis Kinyua for Hivisasa.

President Uhuru Kenyatta fired the directive recently at State House where he met vice-chancellors from all public and private universities together with the universities’ council chairmen.

His directive follows findings by National Cohesion and Integration Commission, or NCIC, indicating 83% of 31 public universities and constituent colleges have failed to comply with legal requirements in employment, admission and the NCIC Act.
