Businessman calls on alumni to train graduates for jobs
Sri Lanka’s Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Thilak Karunaratne said government action from 2005 to 2014 to absorb graduates without any specific duties had spelt disaster for the new government and the people, reports Daily News.He said this action had bloated the public service, which doubled during this period, adding to the pension burden of the government, which will eventually be passed on to citizens.
Delivering the keynote address at the 34th annual general meeting of the alumni association of the University of Colombo, he also raised concerns on the employability of graduates, especially those who come out with a degree in humanities.
