Victoria University to resume after bomb scare

Victoria University classes were to resume as normal on Thursday, after a bomb threat closed part of the Kelburn campus, writes Talia Shadwell for The bomb scare follows threats of violent action received by two other universities last week – the University of Otago's Dunedin campus and Massey University's Palmerston North campus.

Victoria University's Murphy Building and surrounding facilities were closed last Wednesday after a note was found claiming three bombs would explode on campus by midday. About 50 classes and tutorials were cancelled or shifted to other buildings in response, university Vice-Chancellor Grant Guilford said.

An intensive search by police and trained bomb detector dogs throughout Murphy Building did not uncover any bombs or other suspicious items. Guilford said he suspected the threats to his and the Otago and Massey campuses came from unconnected people.
