‘Deviance’ course to face review

University of Colorado officials said last Tuesday that long-time sociology professor Patti Adler might have a chance to teach her popular "Deviance in US Society" course next spring if a review before the start of the semester finds the class appropriate, writes Sarah Kuta for Daily Camera.

University officials had said previously that Adler would not be allowed to teach the course because of a lecture about prostitution. Spokesman Mark Miller said last Tuesday that the course could be back if Adler agreed to a review of it before the spring semester by a group of peers.

The statement from Miller was in stark contrast to an email blast that went out to the university community last Monday from Provost Russell Moore. He said Steven Leigh, the college of arts and sciences dean, and sociology chair Joanne Belknap "determined that Professor Adler would not teach the class in the spring semester (2014)".
