Demand for technology courses soars by 51%

There has been a 51% increase in applications to technology courses in Irish higher education over the past five years, a new study by the Higher Education Authority has found, writes Louise Holden for The Irish Times.

Significant increases in first preference applications to science and engineering courses were also recorded.

A detailed analysis of applications preferences carried out by the Higher Education Authority, or HEA, revealed that applications to technology courses constituted more than 20% of all first preference applications this year. Applications to programmes in engineering and science constituted 4.6% and 7.5% of overall first preference applications, both increases from 2012.
