University students protest against education cuts

Students at public universities in Spain have held a day of strikes and demonstrations to protest against cuts made to education by the conservative government of Mariano Rajoy, reports Prensa Latina.

Convened by the student movement Take the Faculty, Madrid protests began last Thursday with student sit-ins in various faculties of the six universities in the region.

The movement urged students to support the day of action against a rise in tuition fees, the mass dismissal of teachers and educational reforms proposed by Minister of Education José Ignacio Wert.
