Partisan activities banned in universities

Egypt’s Supreme Council of Universities announced last Sunday that it had decided to ban partisan activities on campuses, writes Fady Salah for Daily News.

The statement affirmed that holding political seminars and lectures would still be possible, but political parties will be banned from conducting activities or distributing propaganda within universities.

After the revolution of 25 January 2011, many student groups with the names of political parties were formed. The groups were often engaged in mobilising students to vote for candidates of their parties in elections.
