Foreign universities are inevitable – Vice president

Indonesia’s Vice President Boediono said last Tuesday that it was impossible to prevent foreign universities from operating in Indonesia, particularly in the current era of globalisation, reports The Jakarta Post.

“Do you think we should isolate ourselves like people in North Korea? It’s impossible. Therefore, all sectors have to deal with the potential impact of globalisation,” said Boediono, as quoted by Antara news agency.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the third national meeting of the Indonesian Association of Private Higher Education Providers Agency in Jakarta. Boediono said that local higher education institutions needed to be ready to deal with the arrival of foreign higher education institutions to Indonesia.
