CANADA: Science fraudster traced to Hebron

A scientist found to have committed academic fraud at the University of Manitoba in Canada is now studying food safety and biotechnology in Palestine, according to a US group that tracks research misdeeds, writes Margaret Munro for Postmedia News.

Fawzi Alrazem, who went by the name Fawzi Razem when caught faking experiments in Canada, is now listed as a faculty member at the Palestine Polytechnic University where he specialises in industrial biotechnology and food bio-safety.

Razem could not be reached for comment, but the picture posted on the Hebron university's website is identical to the one associated with the University of Manitoba fraud case. Razem's Canadian misconduct was in the news last week as the federal government released heavily censored documents related to his scientific misconduct case. The documents were obtained by Postmedia News under the access to information law from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, which observers note has "gone far out of its way to keep" Razem's name secret.
