EUROPE: Swiss to join Euro-programmes

A plan to give Swiss universities and students access to European Union education programmes, including Erasmus, has been proposed by the European Commission.

The Council of Ministers will decide whether to accept the deal, which would mean that Switzerland will take part in these programmes alongside the Member States of the EU, the European Economic Area and candidate countries. Switzerland could participate from 2011 and would contribute a total of EUR50.1 million (US$73 million) in 2011-13.
