INDIA: Tertiary official arrested on bribe charge

A Delhi court on Friday sent member-secretary of the All India Council for Technical Education, or AICTE, and a middleman to three-day custody for allegedly seeking a bribe of Rupees 500,000 lakh (US$10,300) from a person for doing a "favourable inspection" of an engineering college in Andhra Pradesh, reports The Times of India.

Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) judge OP Saini refused to allow the plea of K Narayan Rao, member-secretary of the AICTE, that he was implicated because he had refused to show any favour to the complainant. Rao and SB Subba Rao, the alleged middleman, were sent to police custody untill 20 July. They were arrested on Thursday.

According to the CBI, a trap was laid following a complaint by Laxmi Kant Reddy, a partner in Vijay Educational Society, who established an engineering college in Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh.

We all heard about Slum Dog Millionaire. Now its time for Watch Dog AICTE Billionaire. This is a case of Watch Dog becoming Dog Watch. AICTE actually stands for All Included Commission Taking Executive. The law of the land should hang them.
