ETHIOPIA: Postgraduates to plug academic shortage
The Ministry of Education has started recruiting self-sponsored postgraduate students to work as assistant lecturers in Ethiopia's 21 public universities, reports Addis Fortune. Public universities, especially those out of the capital, are faced with an acute shortage of academic staff.A notice posted on an Addis Abeba University information bulletin described benefits for self-sponsored students - reimbursement of tuition fees paid so far; full scholarships to complete studies; salaries throughout the study period; and prospects for PhD studies, reads the notice posted on the information bulletin of the University and copied to the state minister of Education.
In return, students must commit three years' service for one year of training and agree to work in any of the universities the Ministry assigns them to.
