ISRAEL: The relevance of ethnic origin

A study by masters student Israel Blechman discovered that Mizrahi Jews constitute less than one in 10 senior academic staff and that Arabs comprise only 1%, reports Haaretz.

“The overwhelming majority of the academic elite, some 90%, consists of Ashkenazim – Jewish men of Eastern-European descent, and to a lesser extent, Ashkenazi women. Still, academics believe there has not been discrimination – just no “promising candidates”.
