For the first time in Vietnam, an education watchdog under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi will rank local universities, a representative told a conference in Hanoi, reports
Thanh Nien. Data is being collected and the rankings are expected to be announced early next year.
The conference, titled "Universities Ranking: Global trend and viewpoints", was organised by the Center for Education Quality Assurance and Research Development (CEQARD) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training.
Local universities will be categorised into three groups: those offering doctoral degrees, those offering master's degrees, and those offering bachelor's degrees, said Nguyen Phuong Nga, director of CEQARD. The schools will then be ranked within their categories according to their quality of education and research, she said, as well as generally.
Education and Training Deputy Minister Banh Tien Long told
Thanh Nien that a ranking system would give universities an incentive to improve their standards, but needs to be carefully considered. MoET is also in the process of assessing the quality of local universities and expects to announce its results next year.
